United States: US President Joe Biden will be in Germany the next Friday. However, he canceled the trip the previous week due to Hurricane Milton hitting the US, according to German government officials speaking to Reuters on Sunday.

Spiegel magazine had earlier reported the new date, pointing out that meeting plans were well in the pipeline.

The sources indicated that Biden’s visit would not be state-visit as the event would be more compact, attending to work in progress, as reported by Reuters.

Meetings with German Leadership

Spiegel magazine reported that official meetings with the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier were planned for the next Friday. It said talks would include the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Implications for Ukraine Support

Biden’s cancellation of the originally planned trip also scuttled plans for a larger gathering of the so-called Ramstein group of Ukraine arms donors to be part of Biden’s visit to Germany, which would focus on possible new pledges of support to Ukraine.
