United States – On Sunday, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, a supporter of Republican nominee Donald Trump, declared he would contest the Nov. 5 election results if they turned out to be “unfair.”
Rubio’s Stance
“Will you accept the election results of 2024, no matter what happens, senator?” NBC News’ “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker asked Rubio, a ‘Florida Republican‘, in an interview.
“No matter what happens? No,” Rubio answered. “If it’s an unfair election, I think it’s going to be contested by either side.”
Trump and his allies are preparing for the possibility that he may lose the November election, sowing concern about the election’s legitimacy based on his current lead in some key battleground states even as polls show him trailing, Reuters reported on Thursday.
Trump’s Strategy
In recent interviews Trump has refused to say that she would acknowledge the results of the election that Trump has adopted as a new strategy after his last election.
Rubio is a Republican who has been serving in the Senate for three terms and is thought to be a possible choice to run as Trump’s vice president.
Response from Other Republicans
Two other potential running mate – U. S Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum – declined to be drawn on whether or not they would accepted election results.
Rubio accused Democrats of opposing ‘every Republican success since 2000’ despite accepting the outcome of the election, as reported by Reuters.
“If it’s unfair, we are going to do the same thing Democrats do,” Rubio said. “We’re going to use lawyers to go to court and point out the fact that states are not following their own election laws.”
